Grant WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS on Android with Shizuku
DPHMS Tunnel (the app formerly called DPHMS Helper) includes a one-tap grant for installed DPHMS apps. It uses an active Shizuku session to request three Android privileges for those apps: WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS, WRITE_SETTINGS and overlay access.
What the one-tap grant does
The feature checks the DPHMS package list and attempts the three grants for each installed DPHMS app. Apps that are not installed are skipped. The result log reports how many grants succeeded for each app, and reports failures rather than pretending they worked.
This is not Android root and it does not grant these permissions to every app on your phone. It only targets DPHMS apps. Android version, device policy or manufacturer behavior can still refuse an individual grant.
Before you start
- Install DPHMS Tunnel/Helper version 1.5.23 or newer.
- Install and start Shizuku. The grant button needs Shizuku to be running when you tap it.
- Install the DPHMS apps you want to grant. Missing apps will be listed as skipped.
If Shizuku is not set up yet, follow the Shizuku setup guide.
Grant access to the installed DPHMS apps
- Open DPHMS Tunnel/Helper and make sure Shizuku is active.
- Scroll to SELF-GRANT · ALL DPHMS APPS.
- Tap GRANT SECURE WRITE + SETTINGS + OVERLAY TO ALL DPHMS APPS.
- Read the result in the app log. Each installed app should show a result such as
3/3for all three grants. A partial count or error means some access was refused.
If the app says it needs a live Shizuku session, start Shizuku or use [L] LOCAL SETUP, then tap the grant button again.
What to check if it doesn’t work
- Shizuku is stopped: start it again, return to DPHMS Tunnel/Helper, and retry.
- An app says “not installed, skipped”: install that DPHMS app first. The grant tool only processes packages present on the phone.
- A result is below 3/3: use the per-app result and error text as the source of truth. Android or the device manufacturer may reject a grant.
- You reinstalled an app or reset Android: check the result again; don’t assume a previous grant is still present.
Use these grants carefully
These permissions let a DPHMS app write certain system settings, change settings that require special access, or display overlays. Grant only to apps you trust, review the per-app output, and avoid treating the button as a way to bypass Android’s other protections.
